DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT: Ultimate 2020 cheat sheet

Our fantasy rankings are grounded in objective and reliable data, including betting market expectations for how many games teams will win this season, as well as team stats from last year. We also have developed models that analyze similar players (by age, stats, and other factors) and how teams historically have distributed touches among position players. If you wish, you can read a full explanation of what went into creating these player rankings

Below we list the top-10 quarterbacks and tight ends and top-20 running backs and wide receivers in our rankings, assuming standard fantasy football scoring. Check out our full fantasy football projections for the complete list of players and more scoring formats, like PPR and half-PPR.

Please note that these projections and rankings below were generated on Aug. 21 and are subject to change based on breaking news, injuries, etc. Our latest numbers will always be available on the fantasy football section of BetIQ.com.

2020 Fantasy Football Stat Projections: QB

The top-10 list for our quarterback projections features many familiar young names and dynamic talents, starting with Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.

Our ranking for Kyler Murray is a little lower than the consensus. Plenty of folks, after seeing consecutive years where a second-year starting QB exploded to win MVP, are drafting Murray as the most likely option to continue that trend after Mahomes and Jackson in 2020.

Murray comes with significant risks, though, including Arizona’s below-average projected win total, the uneven performance of similar teams with highly drafted second-year QBs, and some historical inconsistency from players similar to him. Our 2020 projections are more sanguine about Murray's likely performance this season.

Remember that just one year ago when Lamar Jackson burst on the scene, the fantasy community was drafting the previous year’s first overall pick, Baker Mayfield, in the top five at the QB position.

These projections are for four-point passing TD leagues.

2020 Fantasy Football Stat Projections: RB

It’s very important to pay attention to your scoring system when drafting all players, but especially running backs. Alvin Kamara is an extreme example of this. Kamara is seventh in our standard RB rankings based on his projections, but he is third in our PPR RB Rankings because of his projected catches.

Derrick Henry, a pounding back who does not catch many passes, is the opposite of Kamara. He’s our third-highest scoring back in leagues that do not use receptions, but moves down the board in PPR leagues. So, you will want to fully account for your league scoring when considering who to draft in the first round after the first couple of picks are off the board.

2020 Fantasy Football Stat Projections: WR

Calvin Ridley is one player that stands out in our wide receiver rankings. There are several reasons we're more bullish on Ridley than the general consensus, where he is being drafted in the teens at the WR position.

First, the Falcons again project as a high-volume passing team in 2020. In fact, our projections have Atlanta as the top team in pass attempts and second only to Kansas City in passing yards.

Second, Ridley (a former first-round pick) has already been productive and is entering year three of his career. Quite a few similar players have broken out with bigger performances at the same stage, and Ridley has the opportunity to do the same on a team likely to be among the passing yard leaders.

2020 Fantasy Football Stat Projections: TE

Tight end rankings can have plenty of variation after the top few guys. Travis Kelce and George Kittle lead our projections, followed by Mark Andrews and Zach Ertz.

After that, things are more wide open. Very few projected fantasy points separate the tight ends we rank between sixth and 15th, and the order can change depending on the scoring format.

T.J. Hockenson is relatively high in our projections. That’s driven in part by comparable players, where recent history has shown that the second year is the most frequent year for tight end breakouts. Hockenson put up decent production for a rookie while Matthew Stafford was at QB for Detroit, but his numbers tanked (and he got hurt) after Stafford’s injury.
