Former Oilers enforcer Georges Laraque was never afraid to throw a punch and he did not hold back on Thursday night.
Laraque was at T-Mobile Arena for Edmonton's 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and voiced his disappointment with the current state of the team in a second intermission interview with Sportsnet's Gene Principe, at one point calling for Oilers players to get "heart transplants".
"Look at the Golden Knights tonight, on paper the Oilers have a way better team, but (the Knights) play with more heart," Laraque said. "There are a lot of guys on (Edmonton) that need to make a hospital visit and get a heart transplant. There’s not enough heart out there. It doesn’t make sense to me."
Laraque was drafted by the Oilers in the second round of the 1995 NHL Draft and played his first eight NHL seasons in Edmonton. He registered 43 goals, 68 assists and racked up 826 penalty minutes in 490 games with the Oilers.
Edmonton (23-29-4) has now lost five straight games, giving up a total of 25 goals in that span, and is currently tied with Vancouver for the second-lowest point total in the Western Conference.
The Oilers will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they face the Coyotes in Arizona.
