After a highly contested Tim Hortons Brier earlier this month, the next big stage for curling is the 2022 World Men's Curling Championship.

Las Vegas hosts the 13 best teams in the world, with Canada being one of them. The country is looking to get back to the podium after missing out on a medal in 2021 and is searching for its first gold since 2017.

The attention turns to veteran Brad Gushue and his team, who earned their fourth Brier win by defeating Kevin Koe's Team Alberta. That punched their ticket to the world tournament, where they will be competing for the third time.

The same quartet owns Canada's last curling championship win, when Gushue and Co. defeated Sweden in 2017. Canada owns the most gold medals at the event with 36 all time since the tournament began in 1959.

Here is what you need to know about Team Canada at the World Men's Curling Championship.

Who is representing Canada at the World Men's Curling Championship?

Gushue's team has been in the bright lights of curling in 2022. In addition to their win at the Brier, the crew also won bronze at the 2022 Winter Olympics in February, taking down the United States in the bronze medal game.

Here is a look at the personnel of Team Canada:

  • Brad Gushue (skipper)

  • Geoff Walker (lead)

  • Brett Gallant (second)

  • Mark Nichols (third)

  • E. J. Harnden (alternate)

The foursome of Gushue, Walker, Gallant and Nichols has been a group since 2014. Gushue and Nichols first began competing together in 1998, when Gushue brought him on as the team's third. The two stayed together until 2011, when Nichols joined Jeff Stoughton's team for three seasons before reuniting with Gushue in 2014.

Walker originally joined Gushue's team as a second in 2011 before switching the next season to his current lead position. He started his professional curling career with Kurt Balderston in 2008 before making the switch to Gushue's squad.

Gallant has only been with Team Gushue during his professional career. He made the jump from juniors in 2014. However, Team Gushue announced ahead of the world tournament that once the 2021-22 season finished, Gallant will be leaving the team for another crew.

Harnden was selected as the alternate for the team a couple of weeks ago. He throws second stone for Brad Jacobs' rink.

Who has represented Canada in the past at the World Men's Curling Championship?

This will be Gushue's third time in the past six years that he and his crew will represent Canada at the World Men's Curling Championship.

It would have been four, but the 2020 tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gushue's team had won the 2022 Tim Horton's Brier and would have gone to the tournament.
