Six of the 18 teams in the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts moved on to compete in the playoffs of the Canadian women's curling championship. The field was reduced by two-thirds after pool play.

The annual competition determines the representative for Canada at the women's world curling championships. In addition, the winning club receives a cash prize and gold rings in the four-heart design of the Tournament of Hearts logo. 

In the end, Kerri Einarson and Team Canada completed four-peat at the competition. Einarson's crew also won the event in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

2023 Scotties playoff format

The top three teams from each pool advanced from pool play to the playoffs of the Scotties. 

The No. 2 team in Pool A faced the No. 3 team in Pool B and the No. 2 team in Pool B faced the No. 3 team in Pool A to determine who advanced to the page playoff. The No. 1 seeds received byes. 

Here is how the page playoff works. It determined the champion: 

  • In Game 1, the third- and fourth-placed teams play against each other. The loser is eliminated.
  • In Game 2, the first- and second-placed teams play against each other. The winner qualifies directly for the final.
  • In Game 3 (the semifinal), the winner of Game 1 plays against the loser of Game 2. The loser is eliminated.
  • Game 4 (the final) is then played between the winners of Games 2 and 3.

Where is the 2023 Scotties taking place?

The 42nd edition of the tournament was played at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

This was the first time that Kamloops had hosted the Scotties and the first time the tournament was in British Columbia since 2018, when it was held in Penticton. 

What is the purse for the 2023 Scotties?

The 18 teams competed for a share of a $300,000 purse. 

Here is the breakdown of prize money for the event: 

1st: $100,000
2nd: $60,000
3rd: $40,000
Championship Pool (4th-8th): $15,000
Non-Championship Pool (9th-18th): $2,500

In addition to $100,000, the winner of the 2023 Scotties will represent Canada at the 2023 LGT World Women’s Curling Championship. That tournament will be played in mid-March and Sandviken, Sweden will host the event.

Einarson's Team Canada was the pre-tournament favorite to win the Scotties yet again, according to Sports Interaction.
