The curling world comes back to Canada this week, as the first-ever Pan Continental Curling Championships will have their inaugural tournament hosted in Calgary.

The event serves as the world championship qualification for participating members, replacing the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships and the Americas Challenge.

Some of the best international players will be at the event, including Canada's Brad Gushue and Kerri Einarson, who are the skips for the country's men's and women's teams, respectively.

Where are the 2022 Pan Continental Curling Championships taking place?

The tournament is being held at the WinSport Event Centre in Calgary, Alta.

The facility was constructed in the hopes of bringing the Olympics Games to Calgary, which the city successfully did back in 1988.

What is the purse for the 2022 Pan Continental Curling Championships?

There is no cash prize for the winners of the event, however, there is much at stake.

The Pan Continental Curling Championships will act as a qualifying event for other championships in the curling season. In the women’s event, the top five teams will qualify for the LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2023, being held in Sandviken, Sweden in March.

In the men’s event, there are five qualification places available for the BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men’s Curling Championship 2023 being played in Ottawa. Canada, as hosts of the event, automatically qualifies.

2022 Pan Continental Curling Championships pool standings

There are 16 teams competing in the men's event and 13 in the women's. Both tournaments are split into an A and B division.

On the women's side, there are nine teams in the A Division and four in the B Division. The bottom two teams in the top division will be relegated to the lower group, while the B Division winner receives a promotion next year.

The same applies to the men, who are split into equal groups of eight. The bottom team from the A Division will be relegated for the 2023 event and the B Division winner will move up.
