After dropping their opening action of the 2018 Winter Olympics against Norway, the Canadian mixed doubles curling team faced dropping to 0-2 in their second competitive match against the United States.
But hours after Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris narrowly lost their opening matchup that came down to the last stone, the pair defeated the United States 6-4 in round robin play to move to 1-1 on the tournament.

Much like the Norway matchup, the beginning ends played out to a dead heap, each team pocketing a point through the first four to bring the score to 2-2. But Lawes and Morris managed to steal three in the fifth end, and never looked back.
"I wasn’t my normal self the first game; I’m usually a better player than that, and I missed three key shots that I pride myself on usually making," Morris wrote in a personal blog he's keeping for Canada throughout the Games. "But there’s no point in putting your tail between your legs and getting a lip on."
Hours after the disappointing loss to Norway, Lawes and Morris got a chance to bounce right back against the pair of Becca and Matt Hamilton, whom Morris described in hos blog as, '' ... really good friends of ours."
But from the sound of it, Lawes and Morris didn't dwell too long on their opening loss, keeping things loose before their next matchup in which they scored a crucial victory.
"We also went to a Korean restaurant where nobody speaks English, and we were pointing to the pictures on the wall to order our food," Morris wrote. "The first dish came, and I think we were eating fish organs. And the second dish came and it was so hot that my dad was crying.
"We were wondering if my dad was OK; we thought he was crying because it was such a tough loss, but he was crying because the food was so hot."
Lawes and Morris will have a chance to pick up two more victory on Friday, when they're back on the ice for their next matchups, facing China (1-1; 6:35 p.m. ET) and Finland (0-2; 11:35 p.m. ET).
