Co-hosts USA will go head-to-head against reigning champions England in Sunday's Super Eight clash at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

Although the West Indians displayed a show of dominance by smashing USA in front of the fans at Kensington Oval, Barbados, on Friday, the U.S. have already done a commendable job by qualifying for the Super 8s in their first-ever appearance at the T20 World Cup.

They notably pulled off a major upset to beat Pakistan in a Super Over during the Group Stage, and while they lost their opening Super 8 encounter against South Africa, they displayed tremendous grit nonetheless, falling just 18 runs short in their chase of 194 to reinforce the belief that all the associate nations are not punching bags.

Their second game against the impressive Windies, though, proved to be a one-sided affair as they were dismissed for just 128 and an 82-run unbeaten knock from Shai Hope ensured the victory target was achieved within 11 overs.

As a result, the USA are all but out of the race for the semifinals, given their poor net run rate (NRR).

On the other hand, England's hopes of reaching the T20 World Cup semis also took a hit last time out as they slipped to a seven-run loss to South Africa in St. Lucia. Jos Buttler's side, who opened their Super 8s campaign with a thumping victory over co-hosts the West Indies on the same ground, were held to 156-6 while chasing a total of 164 for victory on a sluggish surface.

They are still in contention to make it through to the last four but will need some help from South Africa to pip the West Indies to the second spot in Group 2. Even if the Windies win against the Proteas, a relatively comfortable victory over the United States in their next match should also be enough to see England through.

USA T20 Cricket World Cup schedule

USA began their T20 World Cup campaign with an impressive run-chase victory over Canada on June 1 at Grand Prairie Stadium in the Dallas metro area. They then secured a thrilling Super Over win against Pakistan on June 6 at the same venue, sending a strong message to the cricketing world.

However, their winning streak came to an end against tournament favorites India. The Men in Blue defeated USA by seven wickets with 10 balls to spare, handing them their first loss.

USA's last group-stage match against Ireland, scheduled for June 14 at Central Broward Park in Florida, was washed out due to heavy rain. Despite this, they advanced to the Super 8 stage, where they faced South Africa on June 19 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The co-hosts put up a tough fight but ultimately lost by 18 runs.

Next, USA were beaten heavily by fellow co-hosts West Indies on June 21 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, with the Windies running out nine-wicket victors.

They now conclude their Super 8 campaign against defending champions England on June 23 at the same venue.
