Mexico take on Honduras on Thursday evening for a place in the Gold Cup semi-finals.

El Tri came through their group as winners while only conceding one goal, but question marks remain over how potent their attack will be as the competition hots up without a number of key players.

GAME PREVIEW

As quarter-final ties go, this one doesn't look too difficult from Mexico's point of view; it's not often you face a side in the last eight that has not actually won a game.

Honduras are traditionally no slouches on the CONCACAF scene but they have had a poor Gold Cup so far and qualified for the knockout stage thanks to French Guiana's forfeit of their group-stage match, turning a 0-0 draw into a 3-0 win.

Otherwise, the Hondurans lost narrowly to Costa Rica - though their performance was respectable in that game - and drew 1-1 with a resurgent Canada side.

The pessimism in the camp was highlighted by the fact that coach Jorge Luis Pinto returned forward Anthony Lozano, the top scorer in his squad, and midfielder Rony Martinez to their clubs at the end of the groups.

Coming in are two domestic players in Michaell Chirinos and Angel Tejeda who have 20 caps and zero international goals between them.

Honduras have, at least, been fairly solid at the back and Mexico's main challenge will be finding the goals and creativity required to make a breakthrough. It is still not entirely clear who will start up front for El Tri, with Erick Torres the striker most likely to get another chance.
