A national championship rematch is set in the NCAA women's lacrosse tournament.

No. 1 Northwestern (18-2) takes on No. 2 Boston College (19-3) in the national championship game Sunday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Wildcats beat Florida 15-11 in the first semifinal on Friday. The Eagles defeated No. 3 Syracuse 10-7 in a rematch from a semifinal from last season.

That sets up a national championship rematch. Northwestern beat Boston College 18-6 in last year's championship game. Will the Eagles get revenge?

No. 1 Northwestern vs. No. 2 Boston College

This also is a rematch from a regular-season meeting which the Wildcats won 14-11 on Feb. 29.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-2 lead, and Erin Coykendall scored three goals in that fun. Leading scorer Izzy Scane scored five goals, and Taylor Madison added three goals in the victory. Madison had five goals in the semifinal against Maryland.

Boston College leading scorer Rachel Clark had five goals in the first meeting with the Wildcats and five goals in the semifinal against the Orange. She is the key to the Eagles’ offense. Boston College goalkeeper Shea Dolce had 12 saves against Syracuse in the semifinals, and she will have to steal a few away from Northwestern in this matchup.

The teams combined for 34 turnovers in the first matchup. Northwestern coach Kelly Amonte Hiller and Boston College coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein both played at Maryland. It’s another instant classic – and if Dolce is on her game the Eagles could get revenge. We just can’t bet against Scane and this Northwestern offense.

Prediction: Northwestern 15, Boston College 13

NCAA women's lacrosse Final Four semifinals

No. 1 Northwestern vs. Florida

This will be a fast-paced game. The Gators average 17.9 goals per game, and the Wildcats are at 17.1 goals per game. Northwestern and Florida are the top-two scoring offenses in the country.

The Wildcats outscored their first two tournament opponents 37-11 and continue to  dominate around Scane, who leads the attack with 79 goals. Florida senior attack Maggi Hall ranks second in the NCAA with 114 points – which she scored on 64 goals and 50 assists.

Prediction: Northwestern 17, Florida 11

Final: Northwestern 15, Florida 11

No. 2 Boston College vs. No. 3 Syracuse

This is an old-school East Coast rivalry. The Eagles beat the Orange 11-10 on April 18 and 15-8 in the ACC championship on April 28. Rachel Clark leads Boston College with 71 goals and 18 assists. Kayla Martello scored six goals against the Orange in the ACC championship game. Emma Tyrell – Syracuse's leading scorer – was limited to two goals in those two games. She leads the Orange with 63 goals and 19 assists. Teammate Olivia Adamson has 54 goals and 24 assists.

Boston College has reached the NCAA championship game in each of the last six tournaments, and they won the national championship in 2021 with a 16-10 victory against the Orange.

Prediction: Boston College 15, Syracuse 12

Final: Boston College 10, Syracuse 7

Who is Izzy Scane?

Northwestern senior attack Izzy Scane is the Division I all-time leader with 371 goals - a record she broke in the second round against Denver.

Scane scored her 363th goal in that game – which broke the record of 358 set by Charlotte North at Boston College and Duke from 2018-22.

Scane won the Tewaaraton Award – which is given to the top player in the country – in 2023.
