Welcome to Day 2 of the Sweet 16 where four  teams, two apiece from the Midwest and East Regionals, will punch their tickets to the Elite Eight.

No. 1 Kansas 80 vs. No. 5 Clemson 76

Despite a valiant effort from Tigers guard Gabe DeVoe, who finished witha game-high 31 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals, Kansas prevailed to advance to the Elite Eight. The Jayhawks got 33 points from its starting backcourt with Big 12 Player of the Year Devonte' Graham, going for 17, and Malik Newman adding 16. Kansas big man Udoka Azubuike went for a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two blocks. 

The Jayhawks will face the Duke-Syracuse winner in the Midwest Regional final Sunday. 

Second Half

2:27 — Clemson's Shelton Mitchell came up with a steal and drove to the lane for a powerful slam to pull the Tigers to within six at 74-68. Folks, we've got a ball game on our hands after all. 

 

 

4:03 — A pair of Gabe DeVoe free throws pulls Clemson to within 11 at 72-61. The Tigers have trailed by 20 on three occasions. 

18:20 — Kansas opens the half with three 3-pointers and use a 9-2 run to build a 20-point lead over Clemson.

Halftime

Kansas closes the half on a 20-8 run and leads 40-27. Five Jayhawks have at least six first-half points, including Udoka Azubike, who leads the way with 10 points and six rebounds. 

Clemson's Gabe DeVoe leads all scorers with 12 points on 4/6 shooting. Outside of DeVoe, the Tigers are shooting 6/22 from the field.

First Half

6:29 — The Devonte' Graham alley-oops just keep coming and Kansas holds on to a five-point lead. It's 27-22 at the under-8 media timeout.

14:45 — Kansas leads 11-6 at the first media timeout. Jayhawk senior Svi Mykhailiuk scored his first two points in style.

No. 1 Villanova 90 vs. No. 5 West Virginia 78

The Wildcats trailed by six with 11:08 to play, then outscored the Mountaineers by 18 the rest of the way to win by a dozen. SN Player of the Year Jalen Brunson led the Wildcats with a game-high 27 points on 8-for-15 shooting followed by Omari Spellman (18), Mikal Bridges (16) and Eric Paschall (14). Daxter Miles was West Virgnia's top scorer. The Wildcats face the Texas Tech-Purdue winner in the East Regional final Sunday. 

Second half 

5:41 — SN Player of the Year Villanova point guard Jalen Brunson knocks down a slick stepback jumper from 3-point range to put the Wildcats up double-digits at 76-66. 

8:59 — Villanova is showing the character you'd expect from a No. 1 seed. After trailing by six, the Wildcats are in the midst of an 11-0 run and lead 65-60. We'll see if the Mountaineers punch back. 

Halftime

Despite its nine first-half turnovers, Villanova heads into the half with a 44-42 lead over West Virginia. Jalen Brunson leads all scorers with 16 points and Nova guard Mikal Bridges has contributed eight points.

For West Virginia, Daxter Miles leads the way with 11 points. Senior guard Jevon Carter has eight points and five assists for the Mountaineers.

First Half

7:59 — "Press" Virginia…applying pressure. They lead 25-24

11:19 — Villanova has handled West Virginia's defense well thus far and lead 22-20 at the under-12 media timeout. 

No. 2 Duke 69, No. 11 Syracuse 65

Marvin Bagley's 22 points and eight rebounds lead the way for Duke. Wendell Carter Jr. posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Grayson Allen finished with 15 points and eight assists. Gary Trent Jr. played a major for Duke down the stretch, hitting clutch shots and free throws to end with 14 points.

Syracuse was led by 19 points from Tyus Battle and 15 from Oshae Brissett. The Blue Devils' defense forced the Orange to commit 16 turnovers. Despite shooting 5/26 from beyond the arc and getting outrebounded by 'Cuse, Duke came out tiwht the narrow victory. Coach K's team will face Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks Sunday in the Elite Eight.

Second Half

0:06 — Trent Jr. knocks down two free throws to put Duke up four and ice the game.

0:51 — A HUGE bucket from Gary Trent Jr. puts Duke up 65-60 with under a minute to play.

6:56 — Duke has shot an ice-cold 22.7 percent from beyond the arc but still lead 54-50. Marvin Bagley's 17 points and six rebounds have led the way for the Blue Devils. 'Cuse is led by 13 points and five assists from Tyus Battle.

15:52 — Syracuse opens the half on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to one. At the first media timeout of the half, Duke leads 36-35.

Halftime

Duke's seven-point halftime lead is the biggest lead either team has had in a first half that was largely back-and-forth. Freshman Marvin Bagley leads Duke with nine first-half points while Syracuse sophomore guard Tyus Battle leads all scorers with 11.
Syracuse has turned the ball over 12 times in the first half, but has remained competetive by outrebounding Duke 19-12. Duke shot 14 more free throws than the Orange, and connected on 11 of 16 attempts, while Syracuse hit its only two free throws.

First Half

3:45 — Two Grayson Allen free throws give Duke 28-27 lead late in the first.

10:43 — At the under-12 media timeout, the Orange lead Duke 17-16. Syracuse's Paschal Chukwu leads all scorers with six points.

No. 3 Texas Tech 78, No. 2 Purdue 65

Despite a 30-point effort from Purdue's Carsen Edwards, Texas Tech earned a convincing Sweet 16 win Friday night. The Red Raiders' balanced scoring attack resulted in four players in double figures: Keenan Evans (16 points), Zach Smith (14 points), Zhaire Smith (13 points) and Justin Gray (12 points) handled the bulk of Tech's scoring.

The Red Raiders shot a near-perfect 17/18 from the charity stripe and assisted on 15 of its 28 field goals. Texas Tech will face No. 1 Villanova on Sunday in the Elite Eight.

Second Half

1:24 — The Texas Tech lead is up to 15 after a free throw from Kennan Evans. The Red Raiders are over a minute away from advancing to the Elite Eight.

11:05 — A Niem Stevenson dunk gives Texas Tech a 50-41 lead over the Boilermakers at the Under-12 media timeout. The Red Raiders have forced four more turnovers in the second half's first nine minutes.

Halftime

The Red Raiders head into the half with a 30-25 lead over Purdue. Justin Gray's eight points and five rebounds paced Texas Tech in the first half while the Boilermakers' Vincent Edwards and P.J. Thompson scored eight points apiece.

Tech's defense forced Purdue to commit 10 first half turnovers. The trend of the game suggests this one might come down to the wire.

First Half

10:20 — Purdue's Vincent Edwards leads all scorers with eight points midway through the first half. It's all tied up at 15 in Boston.
