Legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo will be the new face of the UEFA Champions League this season.
The two-time World Cup-winner and three-time FIFA World Player of the Year has joined Banco Santander as global ambassador to their sponsorship of Europe’s premier club competition.
Ronaldo will be on hand to present a series of videos throughout the competition, including the official UEFA Champions League Player of the Week award.
Santander also announced on Wednesday it's 'Football Can' campaign, which explains the bank's support for football - the sport with the greatest impact on society and the ability to directly improve people's lives.
“The ball is everything for me - and everything I have achieved in my life was thanks to football,” says Ronaldo.
“It's the greatest power our society has. It is not about religion, we do not see colour, and we are all together, part of one movement. I think that is what football is – it unites us all.”
Santander will also support for the Common Goal movement, powered by internationally renowned NGO streetfootballworld, which wants to change the world through football by offering economic support to organisations that seek to use the sport as a social transformation tool.
