Ricky Ray injury update: Argonauts QB to miss 'significant time' with neck injury image

The Toronto Argonauts announced Monday that quarterback Ricky Ray has been released from hospital after suffering a neck injury during the team's 2018 home opener on Saturday.

Ray, 38, was sacked by Stampeders lineman Ja’Gared Davis in the third quarter of Toronto's 41-7 loss and was subsequently sandwiched between Davis and Calgary's Cordarro Law. He remained on the field for 16 minutes as medical staff tended to him, after which he was transported to Toronto Western Hospital.

After spending the weekend at the hospital, the team says Ray has returned home.

"Ray is still to undergo more tests to further evaluate the injury," the team said in a statement. "He will miss significant time this season due to the injury and there is no timetable for his return at this point."

Since joining the Argonauts ahead of the 2012 season, Ray has become the franchise's all-time leading passer. Ray led the Argos to Grey Cup victories in 2012 and 2017, and he also claimed the CFL championship in 2003 and 2005 while with the Edmonton Eskimos.
