Johnny Manziel will not start for his new team this week but he will get some playing time, according to a report.

CFL.ca's Chris O'Leary reported Tuesday that the new Alouettes quarterback, acquired in a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats over the weekend, will see limited action when Montreal hosts the Edmonton Eskimos on Thursday.

According to O'Leary, Alouettes head coach Mike Sherman agreed to give Manziel "a taste" of game action in Thursday's contest, which echoes statements made at the former Heisman trophy winner's introductory press conference in which Sherman said he didn't "want to put added pressure" on Montreal's newest quarterback.

Manziel has yet to play a regular-season CFL game, having remained on the bench for all five of Hamilton's games before being traded to Montreal. The 26-year-old played in two preseason contests for the Ticats, passing for 168 yards and one touchdown.
