While the FIBA Basketball World Cup is still nearly two years away, the first round of qualifying games are already underway.

After flying past The Bahamas on Friday, the Canadians got on a plane early Saturday to fly to the Dominican Republic for their second qualifying game on Monday, in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

While qualifying for the 2019 games in China will span over nearly a year, Canada has a chance to get a jump on its group and get off to a good start in securing its spot this week.

"Having the opportunity to represent your country is something most players only dream of," Canada Basketball coach Roy Rana said. "But to have the chance to do it at home, in front of friends, family and fellow Canadians is an honor we treasure. All the athletes in our pool have and are continuing to make a tremendous effort to be part of this journey and we are thankful and excited for this 12 that will represent all of us in Halifax and Dominican Republic."

Here's everything you need to know ahead of Canada's game against the Dominican Republic, and for the entirety of the Americas Qualifiers:
