While his latest ATP tournament ended with a defeat in the semifinal round of the Delray Beach Open, Denis Shapovalov reaped the fruits of that tournament in the world rankings.

Shapovalov moved up to 45 in the latest ATP release, the highest ever position for the 18-year-old Canadian, who was previously ranked 46th.

After winning three matches in Delray Beach, Shapovalov ultimately lost to the eventual tournament champion Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. His success though was enough to see him inch up another spot in the ATP.

“It’s disappointing but it’s been a great week for me," Shapovalov said. "I’m going to take the positives and keep going forward.’’

Shapovalov's Canadian counterpart, Milos Raonic, who lost in the second round of Delray Beach, dropped to 40, sliding eight spots, with Shapovalov continuing to close the gap. A run to the final and a tournament victory may have actually seen Shapovalov overtake Raonic, but Shapovalov will be back in action Tuesday when he takes on No. 26 Kei Nishikori in the round of 32 at the Mexican Open in Acapulco.

He has made history though, as Shapovalov's current ranking of 45 is the highest ever for a Canadian teenager, best his own mark set when he made the jump to 46.
