It's rare that the basketball world is rocked by breaking news any more, but it happened on Thursday when the Brooklyn Nets announced Steve Nash as their new head coach.
Nash, a former two-time MVP will take the job in Brooklyn on a four-year deal. Having no prior coaching experience, very few saw this coming.
Here are some social reactions from the NBA world:

Congrats @SteveNash! pic.twitter.com/TjpUGreBE8
The Nash hiring is just the kind of ballsy, out-of-nowhere move to be applauded.

Anyone can recycle and it seldom works; this is bold and I love it
One important thing with the Nets hiring Steve Nash:

Nash and Kevin Durant had a great relationship when Nash worked with the Warriors. Durant relied on Nash's counsel during his Golden State years.
Nash's success will be about managing personalities as much as anything else.
Soooo Steve Nash is the new head coach of the @BrooklynNets ... glad I have my season tickets.

Not many things in the NBA would get me to say “holy sh**”

The Steve Nash hiring just did
A fun layer to the Nets-Knicks rivalry: new Nets coach Steve Nash is RJ Barrett’s godfather.
