Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Luke Campbell results: Lomachenko adds WBC title with brilliant unanimous decision image

Every time Luke Campbell landed a shot, Vasiliy Lomachenko returned fire.

The unified WBA and WBO lightweight champion kept chipping away, scoring a knockdown in the 11th round and a near-knockdown in the 12th en route to adding the WBC strap to his mantle. Lomachenko earned a unanimous decision victory over Campbell at the O2 Arena in London and live on ESPN+ on Saturday. Judges had the bout 119-108, 119-108 and 118-109 in favor of Lomachenko.

SN had it 119-108 in favor of Lomachenko, who connected on 211 punches to Campbell's 131.

Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) is now one title away from undisputed lightweight glory; he's only missing the IBF championship held by Richard Commey.

The arguable pound-for-pound best in boxing outshined Campbell's guts and grit with pure skill. In the 11th, Lomachenko ferociously moved forward with a left and right to the body before going upstairs with a right jab that put Campbell on the canvas. Lomachenko used a barrage of punches to nearly drop Campbell again in the 12th, with the challenger going into survival mode and clutching the champ's leg to avoid being knocked down.

Lomachenko should face the winner of the Dec. 14 fight between Commey and Teofimo Lopez, although Devin Haney vs. Zaur Abdullaev on Sept. 13 in a WBC final title eliminator may have something to say about that.

"It depends on not me, but the promoter," Lomachenko told ESPN in the ring in reference to facing the winner of Commey-Lopez.

That being said, the unified champion believes that Lopez won't get past Commey.

Lomachenko vs. Campbell live fight results

Main event: Vasiliy Lomachenko def. Luke Campbell to add WBC title

Round 12:  Lomachenko coming out aggressive, but Campbell showing plenty of guts, as he has this entire fight. Campbell swinging for the fences with that left uppercut that Ward was talking about. Loma opens up with the body shots and Campbell is in survival mode. He holds onto Lomachenko and even pulls up on the champ's leg just to avoid getting knocked down again. The final bell just tolled and Lomachenko should win this handily. (119-108 Lomachenko)

Round 11:  A left hand scores for Campbell, but Lomachenko responds with a right. Theme of this fight, as the champ has always produced an instant counter. Campbell now getting rough on the inside, getting the champ in the clinch and throwing punches. But Lomachenko comes right back, peppering away at the challenger. Loma moving forward with a ferocious barrage of punches and Campbell is down! Lomachenko did it with a left to the body followed by a right to the body, before going upstairs with a right jab to the head. Dominant round from the champ. (109-99 Lomachenko)

Round 10:  Not as much action as previous rounds, but still enough production from Loma to take the round. Andre Ward notes that there's an opportunity for Campbell to land an uppercut due to Lomachenko dipping his head down on the inside. Let's see if Campbell can exploit that in what's left of these championship rounds. (99-91 Lomachenko)

Round 9:  Lomachenko pops Campbell's head back with a jab. Fatigue seems to be setting in for both fighters at this point, with the champ showing more bounce in his step. Can't be surprised by that. But Campbell did land a nice body shot in the round. Will Loma skate to the victory or will Campbell prove to the champ that he's greater than given credit for? A theme of this fight has been that every time Campbell lands a shot, Lomachenko returns fire and keeps peppering away. Must be frustrating for "Cool Hand Luke." (89-82 Lomachenko)

Round 8:  A left hook from Lomachenko across Campbell's head. A right to the body, with a left upstairs moments later from the champ. A left to the body and a right snaps Campbell's head back. But Campbell lands a shot of his own. Plenty of fight from the challenger, as this bout is still very much up in the air and far from decided. (79-73 Lomachenko)

Round 7:  Lomachenko doubles up on his jab, but Campbell answers back seconds later with a solid right hook. Campbell catches Loma with two lefts, but the champion returns fire with a sweeping hook. Now Loma attacking the body ferociously as Campbell lies on the ropes. Loma pressuring Campbell big time. Both fighters hurt each other that round, but the champ takes the round for his body attack. (69-64 Lomachenko)

Round 6:  A left to the body followed by a right upstairs from Lomachenko. A left hook lands for the champion moments later. Lomachenko lands a right and Campbell responds with a right of his own. Fatigue appears to be setting in for Campbell. We'll see if that becomes an increasing factor, as Loma registers another strong round. (59-55 Lomachenko)

Round 5:  A right to the head, left to the body from Lomachenko in this opening minute. Campbell opens up with right hook that lands, but Lomachenko makes him pay with a counter. A left hook misses for Lomachenko and now Campbell makes him pay with a left hook to the body. Both connect with a punch right in the middle of the ring, but Loma got the better of the exchange with a left hook to the chin and seems to have possibly hurt Campbell. He moves forward, peppering the challenger with stinging shots to the body. (49-46 Lomachenko)

Round 4:  Loma working his angles, trying to get further and further inside, but Campbell is doing a nice job of keeping him at bay. There's that angular jab that Loma throws and lands like seemingly only he can. Lomachenko needs to watch out for that loopy left hand that Campbell is attempting. Because of his reach advantage, it could be a serious weapon. As that's being said, Lomachenko lands a stinging body shot. Loma's round, but this fight is very close so far. (39-37 Lomachenko)

Round 3:  A right jab lands for Loma in the opening 30 seconds of the round. His footwork is so fluid, it's like he's floating around the ring. Campbell gives pursuit to Lomachenko and it pays off, as he lands a loopy left hand. Loma catches Campbell, snapping the challenger's head back with a stiff left hand. That was an excellent, clean punch from the champ and it definitely puts Campbell on notice. Nice uppercut from Campbell, but Loma retorts with a double jab. (29-28 Lomachenko)

Round 2:  Lomachenko seems to be respecting the power of Campbell early on, weaving in the pocket and waiting for the right time to connect. A double jab lands for Lomachenko and he adds a left to the body. Campbell returns fire with a body shot of his own, letting the champ know that he's going to have answers for all of his output. The champ adds a right jab to the body seconds later. A flurry of a combo, including a sneaky left hand for Lomachenko right before the bell tolls. (19-19)

Round 1:  Campbell pumping the jab, trying to assert that five-and-a-half-inch reach advantage in the opening moments here. Lomachenko is looking for his angles, computing information in real-time. Campbell touches Loma with a right to the body. A left to the temple lands for Campbell in the closing moments. A nice, moderately aggressive opening round for "Cool Hand Luke." (10-9 Campbell)

5:47 p.m.:  Both fighters are being introduced and this one is about to start.

5:38 p.m.:  Lights out — except for the cellphones illuminating the building — and here comes the unified lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko, arguably the pound-for-pound best, looking to add some more hardware to his name.

5:35 p.m.:  Here comes Luke Campbell to the roar of a packed O2 Arena in London.

Co-main event: Alexander Povetkin def. Hughie Fury by unanimous decision; heavyweights

5:15 p.m.: There it is. Povetkin announced as the unanimous decision winner by scores of 117-111 across the judges' cards. SN had it 116-112 in favor of Povetkin. Nice win for the Russian, who turns 40 on Monday. Disappointing, uninspired outing for Fury.

Round 12:  Fury starts the final round with a nice combination and is keeping Povetkin at bay with his jab. Fury seems to believe that he has won this fight. I just feel like Fury played it too safe this fight to take that next significant step in his young career. Against an old heavyweight like Povetkin, Fury could have shown us more, much more. (116-112 Povetkin)

Round 11:  Fury comfortable in peppering Povetkin with enough shots to earn the round. Povetkin's power and earlier inside work is fading due to his fatigue. (107-102 Povetkin)

Round 10:  Fury shows enough energy and urgency to take the round, asserting his jab and connecting to Povetkin's body with a nice right hand. However, he needs to up the pace several notches to take the fight at this point. (98-92 Povetkin)

5 p.m.:  A look at Campbell getting loose in the locker room.

Round 9:  A looping overhand right connects for Povetkin. There's blood dripping from Fury's left eye at this point. This is not the way that Fury will establish himself as a legit heavyweight threat. He needs to take risks at this point or this will end in a disappointing fashion for him. (89-82 Povetkin)

Round 8:  Another round for Povetkin, who is still landing inside punches. Is Fury as tired as Povetkin? (79-73 Povetkin)

Round 7:  For as many rounds as Povetkin is banking here, you can't be ready to give the edge to the Russian. With every round that passes, Povetkin is getting more gassed. He'll be 40 in two days to Fury's 24, so let's see if the latter can deliver a drastic turning point. (69-64 Povetkin)

Round 6:  Looping hooks are landing for Povetkin, especially his left. You get the feeling that Fury is going to have to land a stinging shot to change the narrative of this fight ... and possibly soon. (59-55 Povetkin)

Round 5:  Povetkin's inside pressure, especially his left hook which has opened up as a weapon of choice, is negating Fury's long jab. The question is, how long can Povetkin keep up the pace and pressure? (49-46 Povetkin)

Round 4:  Povetkin with a stinging right hand and another, before adding a lunging left hook that connected flush. Although Fury landed some shots of his own later in the round, Povetkin's early work was enough to take the fourth. (39-37 Povetkin)

Round 3:  Fury did a better job using his reach while also keeping disciplined and even tying Povetkin up in the clinch when he needed to. Smart round for Fury. (29-28 Fury)

Round 2:  Fury asserting his reach a bit more, but Povetkin is still measuring him up and moving in for shots. With this kind of pace, though, let's see if Povetkin is going to slow down. (20-18 Povetkin)

4:30 p.m.:  ESPN+ just flashed to a video of Hughie's brother Tyson Fury saying he cannot afford to get complacent against Otto Wallin on Sept. 14.

Round 1:  Povetkin is measuring up Fury, putting the Brit on notice of his power shots early on. Fury isn't really using his size advantage yet. (10-9 Povetkin)

4:22 p.m.:  Hughie Fury and Alexander Povetkin are in the ring and this heavyweight co-main event is about to begin.

Charlie Edwards retains WBC flyweight title after controversial no-contest

4 p.m.:  Well, not quite. The bout has now been ruled a no-contest after that blatant late shot with which Martinez nailed Edwards. That means Edwards gets to keep his title. That punch definitely came late, but Martinez was ripping through Edwards with punches to drop the champ to one knee, before the late shot came in. Look for a rematch next. It should definitely happen. This was Edwards' reaction following the no-contest ruling.

3:52 p.m.:  Martinez with a barrage of punches in the third round. Edwards is hurt. Edwards is down on one knee. Martinez hits a fallen Edwards with a clearly late punch and Edwards is counted out. Winner by KO and new WBC flyweight champion, Julio Cesar Martinez. Wow.

3:38 p.m.: Nice pop from the O2 Arena crowd in London for hometown fighter Charlie Edwards, who's set to defend his WBC flyweight title against Julio Cesar Martinez.
