After moving to a talented lightweight division, Shakur Stevenson is ready to show the world he can hang with the best. The former two-division champion will face his first test within the division against Shuichiro Yoshino on April 8.

The fight will air inside the Prudential Center in Stevenson's backyard in New Jersey, airing on ESPN/ESPN+.

At 25, Stevenson has impressed many due to his high boxing IQ. The American is on many pound-for-pound lists. He hopes shortcomings, like getting stripped of the WBC and WBO super featherweight titles after missing weight in his last bout, are forgotten in favor of his skills. Some have judged him for that, and, like Roy Jones Jr., Stevenson told the New York Post he is ready to bring people back to reality, to show who he is as a fighter.

“It’s like a restart,” Stevenson said. “It’s weird, because when you’re a champion they respect you at a whole different level. When I was champion down there, I was on pound-for-pound [lists] and all this stuff. Lately, you don’t hear nobody say pound-for-pound when it comes to my name, just because I don’t have the belts anymore and I moved up to a new division.

“I look at it, I ain’t too mad about it, I really don’t care. Actually, nah, I’m lying. I do care. I care, and since I do care, I’ve got to wake them up. I gotta make them remember who I am. Now at 135 [pounds], I’ve got to open their eyes up a little bit more and make sure they put some real respect on my name.”

Yoshino is fighting outside of Japan for the first time in his career. He is currently on a three-fight knockout streak.

Outside of Stevenson, the undercard features several young fighters ready to break out within the Top Rank banner. Here is a look into the entire main card of Stevenson vs. Yoshino.

Shakur Stevenson vs. Shuichiro Yoshino undercard

Jared Anderson vs. George Arias

  • Division/Weight: Heavyweight
  • Anderson record: 13-0
  • Arias record: 18-0
  • Belts at stake: N/A

Jared Anderson and George Arias face off in heavyweight action in the co-main event. Anderson (13-0) is a two-time U.S. National Championships gold medalist. "Big Baby" turned pro with Top Rank in 2019, fighting primarily in Las Vegas to start his career. In the first test of his career, he beat Kingsley Ibeh via knockout in 2021 in a fight that almost went to a decision, the first for a man in Anderson with a 100% knockout rate.

In his last fight in December, Anderson beat Jerry Forrest via TKO.

“This is the kind of fight I’ve been waiting for, a big fight between two undefeated heavyweights,” Anderson stated. “I’m excited to once again be fighting on the same card as Shakur Stevenson. Don’t miss this fight. April 8 is going to be a special night in Newark.”

Arias (18-0) turned pro in 2014 and has seven wins via knockout, with his last one in 2018 against Byron Polley. His last fight was a split decision victory against Alante Green in June 2022.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to go to war with Jared Anderson, one of the most highly regarded heavyweights right now,” Arias said. “I thank my team for helping me get to this position. I can’t wait to show my skills on such a big platform. On April 8, I will pull off the upset.”

Keyshawn Davis vs. Anthony Yigit

  • Division/Weight: Lightweight
  • Davis record: 7-0
  • Yigit record: 26-2-1
  • Belts at stake: N/A

Starting things off will be Keyshawn Davis vs. Anthony Yigit. A silver medalist in the 2020 Olympics, Davis (7-0) turned pro in 2021. He has won all but one of his fights via knockout. Davis last fought in December, beating Juan Carlos Burgos via unanimous decision.

"The Newark fans showed me so much love last time, and I can’t wait to give them another special performance,” Davis said. “I’m going to make Yigit regret taking this fight. He’s been in the ring with some good fighters, but I’m on another level.”

He faces a veteran in Yigit (26-2-1), who turned pro in 2013. After the Swedish fighter fought to a draw in his sixth pro fight, he went on a 16-fight win streak. Losing to Ivan Baranchyk in 2018 for the IBF super lightweight title, Yigit has gone 5-1 since. Losing to Rolando Romero in 2021, Yigit won two in a row via knockout, his last bout a TKO win over Humberto Martinez in May 2022.

“I'm excited to get back into the mix,” Yigit said. “Huge respect to Keyshawn for taking this fight, but he's young. Too young. He's fast, I'm fast. He's strong, I'm strong. He's an Olympian, I'm an Olympian. My edge is my experience. I'm going to use it.”
