And now Katie Taylor has a chance to follow suit in the lightweight division.

After scoring a ninth-round TKO over Rose Volante to capture the WBO title last month, Taylor immediately expressed her intentions to face Persoon for the undisputed crown and now she has her wish.

“It’s great that she has finally signed for the fight and I’m delighted that (Matchroom Boxing promoter) Eddie (Hearn) has been able to make it,” Taylor said in a Matchroom Boxing news release statement Tuesday. “After my fight last month, I went back home for a week but then it was straight back to Connecticut to start the hard work in training camp for this fight. When I turned professional my first goal was to win a world title, but then my next priority was to become undisputed champion, so obviously this fight gives me the opportunity to do that, so it’s massive for my career."

If Taylor (13-0, 6 KOs) successfully defeats Persoon (43-1, 18 KOs) she’ll become just the third woman ever to become an undisputed champion, with current welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus being the first and Shields the second.
