At 24, Gervonta Davis is already a two-time world super featherweight champion.

Now, “Tank” will be looking to add a lightweight title to his name as well.

Davis has officially vacated his WBA junior lightweight title, his promoter Leonard Ellerbe told Sporting News, confirming this report from The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger on Sunday.

After destroying Ricardo Nunez via second-round TKO in late July, Davis proceeded to call out IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer for a title unification fight.

However, after stalled negotiations, Davis officially vacated his 130-pound title and will look for hardware at 135 pounds next.

That move up will instantly spark further interest for a Davis vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko fight, especially considering that both sides are interested. During his fight week buildup for his unanimous decision win over Luke Campbell in London on Saturday, Lomachenko told reporters that he’s interested in a fight with Davis.

That came after Davis told TMZ Sports early last month that “it’s time” to fight Lomachenko, adding that the “beginning of 2020” might be the best time for the showdown with the WBA/WBO/WBC lightweight champion, although he’d be content with it happening in the middle or end of next year as well.

If that clash does indeed happen next year, perhaps Lomachenko could be the undisputed champion by then.

IBF lightweight champion Richard Commey is slated to fight Teofimo Lopez Jr. this December. Lomachenko should face the winner of that fight.
