Kenshiro Teraji defends his WBA and WBC World Light Flyweight titles against Budler
時事通信

Kenshiro Teraji looks to continue to prove he is the best fighter at 108 pounds when he defends the WBA, WBC, and The Ring light flyweight titles against Carlos Canizales on January 23 from Japan.

"The Amazing Boy" defeated Ganigan Lopez in 2017 for the WBC light flyweight title and made eight defenses before losing to Masamichi Yabuki in 2021. Since then, Teraji avenged the Yabuki setback to reclaim the title and beat Hiroto Kyoguchi to add the WBA belt to his collection. His last fight was a TKO win in September against Hekkie Budler.

No fighter intimidates him, but he believes Canizales will be a tough and rewarding challenge.

“I’m excited because he’s a strong boxer,” Teraji said via The Ring. “He is a former world champion, he has never lost versus a Japanese [fighter] before. Canizales has fought around the world. He is tough and has heart, good footwork and a strong punch. I think everything [I do] is better. I have good jab and speed. I think he will be surprised.”

Canizales turned pro in 2014. "CCC" fought Ryoichi Taguchi to a draw in 2016 for the WBA light flyweight title but captured it in 2018 against Reiya Konishi. The Venezuelan lost the belt against Esteban Bermudez in 2021 and has since won four in a row.
