After years of waiting, fans will finally get to see the trilogy fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin. The bout on September 17 will take place inside Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, the home of the first two fights between the two.

Canelo made his pro debut in 2005. A four-division champion, Canelo has beaten a who's who of fighters, including Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez, Miguel Cotto, and Amir Khan. After losing to Floyd Mayweather in 2013, Canelo has gone 15-1-1. Canelo unified the super-middleweight division in just 11 months. His last win was over IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant last November.

In May, Canelo competed for a light-heavyweight title for just the second time in his career. Facing Dmitry Bivol, Canelo lost via unanimous decision.

Golovkin made his pro debut in 2006. He became WBA (first interim, then official) middleweight champion in 2010 and IBO champion in 2011. The king of the middleweights beat the likes of David Lemieux, Kell Brook, and Daniel Jacobs before facing Canelo.

Since 2019, Golovkin has won four in a row. He won the IBF and IBO middleweight titles against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in 2019. After two years away from the ring, Golovkin fought Ryota Murata in April. Golovkin won via TKO in the ninth round to win the WBA (Super) middleweight title.

Canelo and Golovkin two first fought in 2017, with the bout ending in a controversial split decision draw. They competed in a rematch in 2018, which was delayed by a few months after Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol. Canelo won via majority decision. Recently, Canelo signed a two-fight deal with DAZN and Matchroom to fight Bivol and Golovkin.
