Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman hits 10-day DL with 'irritating' blister injury image

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman will go on the 10-day disabled list with a nagging blister issue, manager John Gibbons confirmed Saturday.

Stroman allowed five runs in four innings against the New York Yankees on Friday night as the blister resurfaced. Following Stroman's outing, Gibbons revealed Stroman could spend some time recovering from the injury.

"His blister was flaring on him again," Gibbons told reporters after Toronto's loss. "It was irritating and affecting him a bit. He may end up needing a DL stint to heal that thing up, but we're still talking about that.

"It irritates him when he's hitting those seams. He's battled through it before, but it's a tough lineup to face. Especially when he's staring at that short right field wall."

On Aug. 7, Stroman initially encountered a blister injury against the Boston Red Sox. Stroman held the Red Sox to one run through seven innings, but was removed from the game when he went back out for the ensuing inning. He wasn't required to spend any time on the disabled list and ultimately made his next start.

Stroman is second among Blue Jays' pitchers with 100.2 innings pitched and 18 starts. The blister is nothing new for the Medford, NY native.

"It's something that I've been dealing with all year, to be honest with you, I just haven't said anything," Stroman told MLB.com on Aug. 8.

Before Stroman's injury on Friday, the reigning Gold Glove recipient flashed the leather against Yankees' shortstop Didi Gregorious.
