Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse ran a 9.90 to finish third in the men's 100-metre final at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, on Saturday.
It was a personal best for the 24-year-old as he finished behind Americans Christian Coleman (9.76) and Justin Gatlin (9.89), giving the Toronto, Ont. native his second-career world championship bronze medal in the event. DeGrasse had previously claimed bronze in 2015 in 9.92 seconds.
As per usual, De Grasse had a slow start to his race and had to chase down several other competitors in order to claim a medal. In Saturday's event, he was in fourth place at the halfway mark before passing South Africa's Akani Simbine just ahead of the finish line.

The bronze medal caps off a comeback year for DeGrasse, who missed the 2017 world championships with a hamstring injury that continued to plague him throughout 2018.
Canada's other entrant in Saturday's final, 27-year-old Aaron Brown, finished in eighth place with a 10.08 clocking. Both Canadians are expected to compete in the 200 metres as well as the 4x100-metre relay.
