'Our Liverpool and Napoli are superior' - Di Maria says PSG must improve in Champions League image

Paris Saint-Germain must take their Ligue 1 form into the Champions League to avoid more 'suffering' at the hands of their 'superior' rivals, says Angel Di Maria.

The Argentine forward, who  signed a new five-year deal  with the French champions this week, knows they face an uphill fight after slipping to third behind Liverpool and Napoli in Group C after three games.

PSG have already lost at Anfield and drawn at home with Napoli and face another trick away tie in Naples next week.

They have a 100% record in their domestic league and Di Maria, 30, said: "In Ligue 1 things are going very well, but in the Champions League we knew it would be difficult.

"Of course, we have suffered in the Champions League, but we are not the only ones."

"The draw put us in a group with two superior teams, Liverpool and Naples, who are very strong at home."

However, Di Maria is not writing his team off, and believes they have the quality to turn around their fortunes in the final three games of Group C.

"We still have three important matches in the Champions League, which will be decisive," he added.

"We have a good team, a great coach. If we play at 100% and we have a collective spirit, we can qualify for the last eight."

Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United man is 'delighted' to have extended his contract with PSG.

"I have loved the last three years in Paris, where I have everything I need to play my best football," he said. "Every day, I feel honoured and motivated to be a part of such an ambitious project – unique in Europe."
