Matchday one of the Europa League concluded this morning with nine matches taking place across the continent, including some of the heavy hitters in the competition.

Ange Postecoglou coached his first European match for Spurs, whilst AS Roma hosted Athletic Bilbao at the Olimpico, and Lyon, Frankfurt and Ajax were also in European action.

Here is how they all got on.

Tottenham were able to win 3-0 over Azerbaijani side Qarabag despite being a man down for more than 85 minutes.

Vlad Dragusin received his marching orders for denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity, but a goal and an assist for striker Dominic Solanke paved the way Spurs, as did a penalty miss from Qarabag.

In Rome, an 85th minute equaliser from Aitor Paredes denied Roma a win at home and forced them to share the points with Bilbao.

They took the lead through new signing Artem Dovbyk midway through the first half, but were unable to hold on to their lead in a game of few opportunities.

It continues an indifferent start to the season for the side from the Italian capital, having only won once in all competitions and already sacked club legend Daniele De Rossi as manager.

Other notable results included a 4-0 win at home for Ajax over Besiktas, with three of the goals coming in the second half, Rangers getting an important win on the road in Sweden against Malmo, and Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce overcoming a tough derby loss over the weekend to defeat Belgian side Union St.Gilloise.
