Australian Olympian and Tour de France stage winner Rohan Dennis is facing charges over the death of his wife, fellow Olympian Melissa Hoskins.

Dennis, 34, will face court later this year over the incident which occurred in late 2023.

The Sporting News has all the details of the court proceedings against Dennis.

Allegations against Rohan Dennis relating to Melissa Hoskins' death

Police allege Dennis struck Hoskins with his vehicle in front of their home in Mendindie, Adelaide on December 30, 2023.

It is alleged Hoskins jumped on to the bonnet of the Volkswagen Amarok ute and tried to grab the door handle before the car was driven and she tumbled to the ground.

Hoskins died at Royal Adelaide Hospital later that night.

Charges against Rohan Dennis

In August at the Adelaide Magistrates Court, police confirmed the following charges would be pressed against Dennis:

  • causing death by dangerous driving
  • driving without due care

When will Rohan Dennis face court?

Dennis is booked to answer the charges in court on October 30, 2024.

He is currently on bail, which has been his status since his arrest.

Rohan Dennis cycling career

Dennis won two Olympic medals for Australia at the London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 games.

He picked up silver in the track cycling team pursuit in London, before transitioning to road cycling and clinching bronze in the time trial in Tokyo.

Dennis also won Commonwealth Games gold (Birmingham 2022) and silver (Glasgow (2014) in the time trial.

He also had success in the major cycling tours, winning the time trial opening stage in the 2015 Tour de France and wearing the yellow jersey.

The Aussie also claimed stages at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana.
