Wimbledon 2021: Alex de Minaur crashes out with first-round loss to American rising star Sebastian Korda image

Alex De Minaur’s Wimbledon singles campaign is over after the in-form Australian suffered a four-set loss to rising American star Sebastian Korda on Tuesday night (AEST).

The 20-year-old, who is the son of 1998 Australian Open champion Petr Korda, progressed to the second round with a 6-3 6-4 6-7 (5) 7-6 (5) victory.

De Minaur arrived at the All England Club high on confidence after securing his fifth career ATP title at the Eastbourne International on Saturday.

But Korda took the fight to the 15th seed, jumping out to an early 5-2 lead in the first set and securing the only break of the second set to leave De Minaur in a deep hole on Court 17.

De Minaur’s trademark fighting spirit was on full display in the third set but the Sydney-sider was unable to convert any of his break point opportunities.

He made his move in the tiebreak, earning a mini break and holding his nerve to send the match into a fourth set.

Korda wrestled back the momentum with a service break in the fourth game but he was broken immediately by De Minaur.

But there would be no great escape by the Australian as Korda prevailed in a tense tiebreaker to secure one of the biggest wins of his young career.

Meanwhile, Aussie wild card Alex Bolt has claimed an emphatic straight sets win over Filip Krajinovic.

The South Australian took care the Serbian 7-6(5) 6-4 7-5 to advance to the second round.

Australian qualifier Marc Polmans also progressed, scoring a four-set win over Yen-Hsun Lu, prevailing 6-2 7-5 4-6 6-1.

Nick Kyrgios will have to wait until Wednesday to complete his match with Ugo Humbert after the pair couldn't be split before the 11pm curfew.

After winning the first set, Kyrgios dropped the next two before forcing a decider which sits at 3-3 overnight.

Another qualifier in Chris O'Connell is also locked in a five-set battle with French veteran Gael Monfils. That match has been suspended at 2-3 in the deciding set.

Earlier, John Millman was defeated by Roberto Bautista Agut 2-6 6-3 3-6 6-7(4).
