Heather Watson clinched her first WTA Tour title in more than two years with a straight-sets win over Madison Brengle in the Hobart International decider on Saturday.

The Brit claimed her maiden title in Japan in October 2012, and a 6-3 6-4 win over American qualifier Brengle saw her finally add to that.

Watson took her opportunities against world number 84 Brengle, who dropped serve four times despite serving at 75 per cent.

Combining 29 winners with 32 unforced errors, Watson was the more consistent of the pair – with Brengle finishing with 19 and 34 respectively.

Brengle started well, breaking for a 2-1 lead after failing to convert her first 11 break points.

The players traded breaks of serve until Watson held for 4-3, breaking to 15 in the next game and serving out the set.

Both improved on serve in the second set and Watson's break in the seventh game proved to be decisive.

Watson will carry her good form to the Australian Open, where she faces Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in a tough first-round clash.

Brengle meets German 13th seed Andrea Petkovic.
