Former Australian tennis player Todd Reid has passed away at the age of 34.

A Tennis Australia spokesperson confirmed that Reid died on Tuesday.

There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Reid was touted as a future superstar of Australian tennis when he won the 2002 Wimbledon boys' singles title, the same year Lleyton Hewitt won the men's singles title.

Reid also won the Australian Open boys' doubles title in '02.

At that stage, only Hewitt and Mark Philippoussis were in front of him in the pecking order of Australian tennis players.

Reid's best achievement was reaching the third round at the 2004 Australian Open, where he lost to Roger Federer.

His career-best ATP singles ranking was 105.

Reid quit the sport in 2005 due to ongoing injury problems and after suffering glandular fever.

Hewitt and Todd Woodbridge paid tribute to Reid on Twitter.
