Nick Kyrgios: ATP hand down further punishment to controversial Australian star image

The ATP has concluded its investigation into the Nick Kyrgios saga stemming from his Cincinnati Masters breakdown, fining the Australian a further $25,000 and suspending him for 16 weeks.

The investigation found a pattern of behavior related to Kyrgios’s Verbal Abuse of officials and/or spectators in the past 12 months that constitutes a violation of the ATP Official Rulebook.

Along with the fine and suspension, Kyrgios will also face a probationary period of six months.

However, the fine and suspension are deferred pending Kyrgios' compliance with the following probationary conditions:

  • Verbal or physical abuse of officials, spectators or any other person while on the court
  • Unsportsmanlike Conduct based upon an act, such as spitting, directed towards an official, spectator or other person during or upon conclusion of the match
  • Visible Obscenity directed towards an official

The fine and 16-week suspension will be lifted at the end of the six-month probationary period provided that the above conditions are met.

Any appeal by Kyrgios must be lodged within five working days of today’s determination.

Kyrgios' comments where he labelled the ATP corrupt were also investigated - but following his retraction/clarification surrounding the comments, the ATP deemed it did not constitute any further penalty.

More to come...
