Just 24 hours after his unforgettable comeback win over 17-time Grand Slam winner champion Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios overcame rival Stan Wawrinka  7-5 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 to set up a meeting with John Isner in the semi-final.

The match started pretty stock-standard, going game for game until 5-all in the first set.

The eleventh game was pushed to deuce with Isner on serve, where it took Kyrgios four opportunities to take the first break of the match.

Before locking down the break, the controversial Australian threw his racquet on his third break point attempt after he mishit a bullet serve from the opposition.

Firing back at the ramped up Acapulco crowd jeering from behind, Kyrgios yelled "Where are the Rafa fans at? Hey Rafa fans, where you at?" and "Let's get a flight to Indian Wells" before winning the advantage.

Riding the momentum from taking his first break point, Kyrgios eased through the final game to win the set 7-5.

Much like the first set, both players held comfortably to kick off the second.

Down 2-1 on serve, Kyrgios turned from tennis player to cheerleader as he conducted a Mexican wave to win over the Acapulco fans.

With the hard-hitting pair locking the score at 5-all, world No.9 Isner won his first break and went on to win the second set.

After taking the first two points of Isner's second service game, the frustrated Canberra threw his racquet for the second time as he let a ball fly over the back line.

A to-and-fro final set resulted in a tense tiebreaker.

Twice Kyrgios earned a match point; twice Isner fought back to stay in the match.

But it was third time lucky for Kyrgios who finally sealed victory to advance to the final.
