Garbine Muguruza overwhelmed Sam Stosur to reach her first French Open final in style on Friday.

Fourth seed Muguruza simply had too much power, energy and finesse for an ageing Stosur, as she registered a comfortable 6-2 6-4 semi-final victory in front of a sparse crowd on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

The 22-year-old, who has now won 12 sets on the bounce at Roland Garros since dropping her very first set of the tournament, advances to her second grand-slam final, where she may get the opportunity to avenge her defeat to world number one Serena Williams in last year's Wimbledon showpiece.

Incidentally, Williams and opponent Kiki Bertens both appear to be struggling with injury in their ongoing semi-final on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Muguruza laid down an early marker when she broke in the very first game and, despite her own minor struggles on serve, she raced into a commanding lead.

Stosur's serving woes were underlined when she double-faulted to gift Muguruza the double-break, before the world number four sent a fine cross-court forehand beyond the advancing Australian to go 4-0 up.

A beaten finalist at the French Open in 2010, Stosur finally got on the board by holding in the fifth game, but Muguruza reasserted her authority immediately by bullying her way to another comfortable hold.

Stosur staved off the inevitable with a nervy hold of her own, but Muguruza went on to seal the first set in just 33 minutes when Stosur sent a backhand long.

Muguruza showed no sign of mercy by ruthlessly breaking to love in the first game of the second set but, to her credit, Stosur came back fighting and broke back to level at 2-2 thanks to a stinging forehand winner.

However, any cause for optimism was punctured when the 32-year-old double-faulted to hand Muguruza the double break, and, despite a minor wobble as she closed in on victory, the Spaniard eased through to the final.
