Laver Cup 2018: Jack Sock and Kyle Edmund announced as final captain’s pick image

Jack Sock and Kyle Edmund have been named as the final captain's picks for the 2018 Laver Cup, completing Team World and Team Europe's star studded lineup.

The tournament's namesake Rod Laver was joined alongside Team Europe's Novak Djokovic, Team World's top-ranked player Juan Martin del Potro and captain John McEnroe to announce the final players.

McEnroe chose fellow American Jack Sock as his final captain's pick as he's the only man ranked inside the world's top 20 in both singles and doubles.

“Jack was an incredible asset to Team World at the Laver Cup last year and I’m excited to name him for the team again this year,” McEnroe said.

“He’s the best doubles player in the world.

“He’s a great team player, as Nick (Kyrgios) is. I believe they’ll make each other better."

The second edition of the Laver Cup will be Sock's second appearence on the World team and played alongside Nick Krygios and John Isner in the doubles event.

“I can’t wait to play Laver Cup again,” Sock said.

“It was one of the highlights of the year for me and I’m so excited about playing here in the United States, at home, and in the great sports city of Chicago.

“There’s no way we want to let Team Europe win here, on our home turf, and they know it’s going to be tough.

“We have an awesome team and I can’t wait to once again put aside our usual rivalries to play together. It’s going to be amazing,”

Sock is the last addition to play on the World team along with American John Isner, Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro and Diego Schwartzman, Wimbledon runner-up Kevin Anderson from South Africa and our very own Nick Kyrgios.

To much controversy, Kyrgios was the first member of the World team to be selected by McEnroe despite the captain dubbing his attitude as a "black eye for the sport" and claiming that the Australian's career would be over within five years if he kept wasting his talent.

The former world number one has nothing but praise for the Aussie these days, declaring Kyrgios as the most talented tennis player in the world since Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic headline Team Europe's squad alongside Germany's Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, David Goffin of Belgium and Britain's Kyle Edmund.

The newest addition is the only player who is not ranked within the top ten players in the world.

Edmund has elevated from a world ranking of 50 in January to world number sixteen reaching the Australian Open semis, the finals in Morocco and defeated Djokovic and David Goffin to make the quarter-finals in Madrid.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity and I can’t wait to join all these great players in Team Europe at the Laver Cup in Chicago,” Edmund said.

“Tennis is such an individual sport so it’s always very special to have the chance to play as part of a team. I watched the Laver Cup on TV last year and the atmosphere in Prague was amazing.

“It’s a huge honor.”

The six tennis champions from Europe will face the team of players from the rest of the world at the unique event.

Team Europe were crowned champions of the inaugural event on homesoil in last year in Prague.

“Team Europe will be a force to be reckoned with in Chicago and we plan to mount a strong defense of our title," Europe captain Bjorn Borg said.

"It’s an extraordinarily strong team, with Roger and his 20 Grand Slam titles, and Novak, with his 13 – it is very exciting. Roger and Novak have shared a rivalry over so many years so it will be remarkable to see them come together in the same team, and work together for the win."

The second edition of the Laver Cup takes place from September 21-23, at the United Centre in Chicago, United States.
