The French Open continues to throw up surprise results with male stars eliminated on day nine, further opening up the bottom half of the draw.
There is only one women's top 10 player left in the final eight - Iga Swiatek - and even she didn't have it all her own way.
The Sporting News wraps up all of the action at Roland-Garros.
Medvedev, Tsitsipas bomb out with surprise defeats
Both Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas were hot favourites to progress to the quarter finals, despite having tricky fourth-round encounters.
In the end both ended up eliminated, with world no.4 Tsitsipas the first to exit after being sent packing by Danish teen Holger Rune 7-5 3-6 6-3 6-4.
Rune's all-round craft on the clay court was too much for the Greek's consistent game - as the 19-year-old world no.40 snared the first set despite going down an early break.
It looked as if Tsitsipas would steam roll his younger opponent after fighting back to claim the second set and tie the match, but Rune showed he will be a contender at Roland-Garros for years to come with a mature display to knock out the 2021 finalist.
Medvedev hadn't lost a set prior to his match against Marin Cilic, who ended up sweeping the Russian in straight sets 6-2 6-3 6-2.
The second seed's breezy progress to the fourth round was a slight surprise with his limited preparation for the tournament after hernia surgery - and it appeared as if Cilic exploited Medvedev's lack of fitness.
Cilic - the 2014 U.S Open champion - has made the final of all slams in his career, except Roland-Garros, and looks to be the in-form player in the bottom half of the draw.
One of Cilic, Rune, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev will feature in the final, with only Cilic reaching the decider of a slam before.
Ruud made light work of in-form Pole Hubert Hurkacz 6-2 6-3 3-6 6-3, while Rublev looked in trouble early against Jannik Sinner before the Italian succumbed to injury 1-6 6-4 2-0 retired.
Swiatek gets tested but still looks ominous
World no.1 and overwhelming French Open favourite Iga Swiatek marched on to the last eight, but only after a scare against Chinese teenager Qinwen Zheng - losing her first set of the tournament.
The Pole lost the first set in a tiebreaker, before comfortably overcoming the impressive 19-year-old 6-7(5) 6-0 6-2.
Swiatek will now meet 11th seed Jessica Pegula, who needed three sets to overcome Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu 4-6 6-2 6-3.
Russian 20th seed Daria Kasatkina underlined herself as a contender with a 6-2 6-2 demolition job of 28th seed Camila Giorgi, while her countrywomen Veronika Kudermetova recovered from a slow start to knock out Madison Keys 1-6 6-3 6-1.
Kasatkina and Kudermetova will meet in an all-Russian quarter final.
