Marc Polmans’ French Open run has come to an end with a 6-7 (5) 6-2 7-6 (3) 6-4 loss to 20th seed Cristian Garin.

The Australian world No.122, entered the second-round clash against the 19th-ranked Garin of Chile as the major underdog.

But the 23-year-old South African-born Aussie stunned clay-court specialist Garin when he took the opening set in a tiebreaker.

Garin found his power game to comfortably take the second set but had to come from 5-3 down in the third before winning it in a tiebreaker to take a two-sets-to-one advantage.

Polmans, who gained entry into the main draw as a lucky loser, kept fighting until the final point but was able to force a fifth-and-deciding set, eventually going down in three hours and 41 minutes.

The Melbourne-based right-hander was the last remaining Aussie in the men’s or women’s singles draw at Roland Garros.

Garin will meet 15th seed Karen Khachanov in the fourth round.
