French Open 2020: Dylan Alcott successfully defends French Open quad wheelchair singles title image

Dylan Alcott has successfully defended his French Open quad wheelchair singles title with a 6-2 6-2 victory over doubles partner Andy Lapthorne.

The Australian world No.1 trailed 2-0 in the opening set after sluggish start but responded with a run of six-straight games.

Lapthorne momentarily stopped the onslaught with a service break early in the second set.

But the 29-year-old Aussie quickly wrestled back the momentum to secure his 11th Grand Slam singles title in just 51 minutes.

It is Alcott’s second grand slam singles title of 2020 after he collected his sixth Australian Open crown in January.

The victory avenges his shock loss in this year’s US Open final.

With the win, Alcott becomes the third Australian to defend a Roland Garros title alongside Margaret Court (1969-70 women’s singles) and Todd Woodbridge (1988-89 boys’ doubles).
