Fifteen of the women's top 30 will headline the WTA 500 tournament at the Brisbane International, while 16 of the top 50 men's players will play in the ATP 250 event.
Nine individual Grand Slam champions are competing across the women's and men's fields, with Rafael Nadal also playing his first match in nearly a year.
The Sporting News explains who you need to keep an eye on from December 31 to January 7 at the Brisbane International.

Rafael Nadal (22-time Grand Slam winner)
The Spanish tennis legend will make his return to the sport at the Brisbane International after not playing a match in almost 12 months.
After losing to Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of Australian Open 2023, Nadal hasn't competed in a match since, with a hip injury forcing him out for the rest of the season.
All eyes in Brisbane will be on Nadal to see what level he is playing at after such a significant injury layoff at 37 years of age.
Will he return capable of challenging at Grand Slams? You wouldn't put it past him.
Aryna Sabalenka (world no.2)

It's been a huge 2023 for Sabalenka, who started the year winning the Australian Open and finished it with a finals appearance at the US Open.
In between, the 25-year-old even made the semi-finals at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
Sabalenka's form saw her knock Iga Swiatek off her perch as world no.1 temporarily, before she dropped back to no.2 by the end of the season.
There is no doubt the powerful right-hander will be the favourite on the hard-court surface in Brisbane.
Elena Rybakina (world no.4)

The power-hitting Kazakh announced herself as a force by winning Wimbledon 2022, but with no rankings points available for that major, took a while to rise up the rankings.
But after reaching the final of Australian Open 2023, incidentally losing to Sabalenka, Rybakina made the quarters at Wimbledon and won titles at Indian Wells and Rome.
Now ranked four in the world and approaching her peak at 24 years of age, the Russian-born star is ready to take the WTA by storm in 2024 and will be keen to start in Brisbane.
Holger Rune (world no.8)

It might be unfair to say Rune is the 'Danish Nick Kyrgios' considering his current ranking is higher than the Australian's has ever been.
But the 20-year-old Denmark star is petulant, controversial and entertaining, while being hugely talented - much like Kyrgios.
Being the top-ranked male at the Brisbane International, Rune will be one of the favourites to add to his four singles titles.
The Boris Becker-coached talent has never been past the quarter-final of a Grand Slam, but it's only inevitable until that mark is broken.
Sir Andy Murray (three-time Grand Slam winner)

Not only is the legendary Nadal competing in the ATP 250, but tennis icon Murray will also be in the field.
With his career winding down at 37 years of age, Murray is no longer able to compete to win majors, but he is still most definitely an entertainer.
Murray has three Grand Slam titles to his name but you wonder how many he would actually have in a different era.
Brisbane International will be one of the last chances for Australians to see the British legend in action.
