What surprised
Eleven seeds losing in round one - a statistic that would have been much more startling if there were only 16 - including fifth seed Ana Ivanovic and ninth seed Angelique Kerber.
What didn't surprise
The women going at less than a 32 per cent strike rate on challenges - 111 of 349 were successful. Sure, some are 'thrown away' as momentum-halters, but it goes to show the umpire is still right more often than not.
The women's final line-up - seeds one and two playing off, and Serena Williams winning her sixth title, and 19th major.
The volume on court - regular screechers Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka were back at their vocal best.
New names
Madison Keys, Madison Brengle, Irina-Camelia Begu. All three made the fourth round, with Keys going onto the semi-finals. The Madisons will give American fans plenty to cheer for for some time to come, while Begu is the latest Romanian shining light - joining world number three Simona Halep in representing the eastern European nation highly this fortnight.
Old names
Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Ekaterina Makarova. Williams and Sharapova have 26 majors between them, Makarova is without one. But while it was a repeat of the 2007 final in Australia, Makarova also stood up as she proceeded to reach the last 16 for a fifth year running, and recorded a personal best by making the semi-finals.
The controversy
Post match, on-court interviews are normally nothing more than the players getting their chance to warm up to their fans. However, when an interviewer asked Canada's Eugenie Bouchard to 'twirl' to show off her outfit, it created a media storm.
The stat
Italian Camila Giorgi only played three matches - losing to Venus Williams - but she topped the tournament for double faults with 37. Sixteen in her win over Flavia Pennetta, and another 16 in her loss to Williams, helped rack up the tally.
The quote
American Coco Vandeweghe, who reached the third round, speaks the truth when it comes to tennis. When a reporter referred to her match against Serena Williams at the 2012 US Open, she replied: "I got spanked, yeah."
