Australian Open: Nick Kyrgios serves brutal comeback after social media snub image

Nick, Nick, Nick.

Why did you delete another Tweet? Especially one as marvellous as this?

Controversial Australian star Nick Kyrgios has clapped back at notorious media stirrers NT News after they claimed that the world No.52 would have given up the fight against No.2 seed Rafael Nadal.

As young gun Alex de Minaur succumbed to Nadal’s near flawless expertise on Friday night, the newspaper suggested that the likes of Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic wouldn’t have bothered to stay in the game.

But the Canberran tweeted a stunning comeback to NT News which simply pointed out that he had defeated Nadal once before… in Wimbledon… at the same age as de Minaur.

On his All-England debut in 2014 Kyrgios famously upset the Spaniard in four sets to reach the Wimbledon quarter finals, taking out the match 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 on centre court.

But not only has the 23-year-old defeated Nadal since his professional debut, he's beaten the entire 'Big Four' that has dominated the modern tennis era. He's beaten all the big shots including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka.

In fact, there's only two players to have ever beaten Federer, Nadal and Djokovic on their first attempt: Australia's Lleyton Hewitt and Kyrgios.

Yet after proving his point, Kyrgios deleted the Twitter post on Saturday night which is quickly becoming a common occurance for the Aussie talent.

Only days before he took a not-so-subtle swipe at Lleyton Hewitt, suggesting Australia's Davis Cup captain plays favourites in a since-deleted Instagram post.

Kyrgios hoisted a picture of Hewitt commentating courtside for Channel 9 during Alex de Minaur's second-round victory over Henri Laaksonen.

The photo included the caption, 'Whose match is he watching?' and provided two options: 'Demon' (De Minaur) and 'No One Else'.

Australians John Millman and Matthew Ebden were also battling against Roberto Bautista Agut and Rafael Nadal respectively at the time of Kyrgios' post.

While the jab on Thursday night served another dose of controversy over Australian men's tennis, he need not have scrapped the latter.

Perhaps he's worried that it might be seen as a dig on Davis Cup teammate de Minaur?

Irrespective of his first round defeat to Milos Raonic, the truth is that Nick Kyrgios remains Australia's most successful player since Lleyton Hewitt dominated the tennis world.
