Aussie John Millman is through to the second round of the Mexico Open after a straight-sets masterclass against Marcel Granollers, but countryman Jordan Thompson has been bundled out.
World No.44 Millman breezed past the Spanish Granollers to complete a 6-3 6-4 win over the qualifier in less than 90 minutes, setting up a clash with German Peter Gokowczky.
Breaking serve on four occasions, the Australian built a 3-0 lead in the second set before Granollers – ranked world No.111 – fought back to level the score at 4-all.
Yet Millman proved his superiority and broke back the very next game to serve out the match.

Millman owns a 3-1 head-to-head record over his next opponent Gojowczyk, who he last defeated in three sets at the Miami Masters last March.

Meanwhile, Thompson was beaten 3-6 6-4 6-3 by American Francis Tiafoe.
Thompson claimed the first set but sixth-seed Tiafoe turned up the heat to win consecutive sets and close out the match in just over two hours.
But there were promising signs for the 24-year-old Sydneysider who served 11 aces to Tiafoe's five.
Fellow Australians Nick Kyrgios, Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin play their first matches of the Mexico Open on Wednesday (AEDT).
