Australian tennis stars Ash Barty, Alex de Minaur, John Millman and Dylan Alcott have been recognised for their stellar form this year by being nominated for the 2018 Newcombe Medal.

The highest individual honour in Australian tennis, the winner will be announced on November 26.

Barty won the award last year, and followed it up with another incredible season that included winning the US Open doubles in September and the WTA Elite Trophy earlier this month.

The 22-year-old is looking to become the second player to win the award in consecutive years after Sam Stosur claimed the medal three years in a row between 2010 and 2012.

“Winning last year’s Newcombe Medal was an incredible moment for me and to be nominated again is a real honour,” Barty said in a press release on Monday.

“The goal for me this year was to build on 2017 results and consolidate my ranking. I am proud of what my team and I achieved, the US Open doubles title with CoCo Vandeweghe and finishing the year with the WTA Elite Trophy win were definite highlights. I can’t wait to start the 2019 season at home in front of Aussie fans.”

Alcott, who won his sixth Grand Slam, including his second US Open, in the quad wheelchair singles at Flushing Meadows, is in the running for his second Newcombe Medal after taking it out in 2016.

The 27-year-old has also won four Australian Opens and this year teamed up with Heath Davidson to win the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in June.

"I have really enjoyed my tennis in 2018 and it has been a huge season being able to defend my Australian Open and US Open titles,” Alcott said.

“For me personally and for my sport, however, taking to the courts at the All England Club at Wimbledon was something that I will cherish forever.

“Australian Tennis has seen some great results and consistent performances over the past 12 months and that’s exciting, especially as we approach the Australian Open in 2019."

De Minaur capped off his incredible 2018 by making the final of the Next Gen ATP final in Milan last weekend.

The 19-year-old bettered a host of up and coming talent last week, before going down to Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas in the decider

'The Demon' burst onto the scene last summer, making the semi-finals at the Brisbane International and the final a week later in Sydney.

After going into 2018 ranked 201 in the world, de Minaur is currently the top-ranked Aussie at 31.

"Last year I was fortunate enough to be named Junior Athlete of the Year and to move up the ranks this year and be nominated for the Newcombe Medal is really exciting for me,” De Minaur said.

Over the course of the past 11 months, he has taken the scalps of Gilles Simon, Andy Murray, Hyeon Chung, Benoit Paire and Milos Raonic as he continues to make the tennis world sit up and take notice

Millman, currently ranked 33 in the world, caused one of the biggest boilovers of the year when he beat Roger Federer in a five-set epic in the fourth round of the US Open.

The win marked an incredible turnaround for the Queenslander, who was sidelined by injury for four months in 2017.

In addition to his US Open success, Millman won two ATP Challenger titles and advanced to his first ever ATP final in Budapest in April.

His remarkable return to action saw him shortlisted for ATP Comeback Player of the Year award, which was eventually given to Novak Djokovic.

"I feel honored to be nominated alongside such a talented group of players and it will be great to come together and celebrate our achievements with the rest of the tennis community,” Millman said.
