Once one of the Australian music industry's biggest success stories, these days Cody Simpson’s career path looks a little different, trading singing for swimming as the 25-year-old looks to further his success in the pool.
But will Simpson be able to actually qualify for the Australian team, and earn the chance to compete at the upcoming 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games?
Did Cody Simpson qualify for the Commonwealth Games?
Simpson has a real chance to qualify for the Commonwealth, after he swam under the qualifying time in his heat on Wednesday, making the final as the second-fastest swimmer behind only dual-Olympic bronze medalist Matthew Temple.
If Simpson can continue this form, he will be close to a lock for the Australian team, with the top three placed swimmers booking their ticket to Birmingham.
[UPDATE] Simpson finished just under the qualifying time behind Matt Temple and Kyle Chalmers. He very likely just qualified for the Commonwealth Games. What a story.
Matt Temple touches the wall first in 100m butterfly as Cody Simpson finishes third. What a yarn. He’ll be (very likely) heading to the Commonwealth Games for Australia later this year pic.twitter.com/4RmUPsfcCa

What a race! Matthew Temple claims the star-studded Men’s 100m Butterfly Final, while Cody Simpson is RIGHT on the qualifying time and it’s just enough to see him enter swimming history.

What race is Cody Simpson attempting to qualify in?
Simpson is seeking to qualify in the 100 metres butterfly and is performing incredibly well, qualifying second-fastest for Wednesday's final, and even beating former freestyle Olympic gold medalist Kyle Chalmers, who is also seeking to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in butterfly.
This comes in stark contrast to Simpson's previous efforts - in 2020 he finished dead last in the 100m butterfly final at the Tokyo Olympic Trials.
