It’s a couple of weeks late for an end of financial year sale but St Kilda has slashed ticket prices for its round 17 match in a desperate bid to get fans in the stands.

Adult general admission entry for the Friday night game against Carlton at Etihad Stadium will be slashed from $25 to $13 during a sale period starting on Thursday, and ‘premium’ seats are to be cut from $75 to $45.

The move is a reflection on the lack of interest in a contest between the 15th –placed Saints and bottom-of-the-table Blues, despite the game being played in the Friday ‘blockbuster’ slot.

It’s likely more people would turn up if St Kilda hadn’t won two of its past three rounds, if this was able to be billed as a ‘Battle for the Wooden Spoon”, or after last week’s Carlton v Brisbane clash, “The Jack Lukosius Cup, Part II”.

"While our performances have lifted in the past few weeks, we acknowledge that the first half of the season was disheartening for our supporters," St Kilda chief executive Matt Finnis told the Herald Sun on Wednesday morning.

"That said, we can't escape the important role they (the recent wins) will play in helping us turn things around.”

Finnis made no secret of the Saints’ need to get bums on seats.

"The way our new Etihad Stadium deal is structured means that even small increases in crowd attendance translates into significant financial uplift.

"Every supporter who attends our games in the final seven rounds will have a big impact on our club."

If you are planning on going to the game this Friday, hold off buying your tickets for the moment and wait till Thursday.
