Despite another disappointing campaign in Europe this season, Barcelona are close to clinching the 2022/23 La Liga title.

Xavi's side have lost just three of their 33 league games so far, conceding just 11 goals, 15 fewer than the next best team.

Barcelona are 13 points clear of second place Atletico Madrid at the top of the table, with five games to go, and they can clinch the title with victory at local rivals Espanyol on May, 14.

Real Madrid are busy in the Champions League semifinals, up against Manchester City, after winning the in the Copa del Rey against Osasuna.

Real Sociedad are in pole position to claim 4th place and secure the final La Liga qualifying spot for the Champions League.

When can Barcelona win the La Liga title?

The league title picture is becoming clearer for Barcelona and they need just three more league points to be confirmed as La Liga champions.

The most direct route for that comes via a win over Espanyol, but they could also be crowned as winners before facing their neighbours, if Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid slip up in their games.

How many times have Barcelona won La Liga?

Barcelona have won the La Liga title 26 times already, including the inaugural edition of the competition. Real Madrid hold the record for most league titles with 35.

The Catalan side claimed their first title in 1929, when just 10 teams participated in the league. They beat Real to the punch by two points after an 18-game season.

Their last league title came in the 2018/19 season when Lionel Messi scored 36 league goals to help Ernesto Valverde's side to the trophy. They beat Real 5-1 in that season thanks to a hat-trick from Luis Suarez, and went on a 23-match unbeaten run.

Barcelona trophies in club history

Barcelona's supporters have been treated to many great players in their history who have brought the club a lot of success. From Cesar Rodriguez to Johan Cruyff to Lionel Messi, this team has been synonymous with winning trophies.

Barcelona hold the record for most Copa del Rey titles, Supercopa de Espana, UEFA Super Cup, and the now defunct UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
