Arsenal's floundering hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League will be in need of a desperate boost when they travel to struggling Southampton on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta's men have fallen three points behind arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the fight for fourth and the Gunners, despite having a game in hand, cannot afford any more slip-ups.

Losses to Crystal Palace and Brighton since the international break have made it three defeats in four games for the fifth-placed Gunners and has come at exactly the wrong time as the season heads into its final weeks.

Fortunately for Arsenal they are facing in Southampton a side in even worse form than them having picked up just one point from five games.

They were trounced 6-0 at home by Chelsea in their latest setback and the only saving grace for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side is that with 36 points already on the board they are in all probability safe from relegation — though another three points would probably relax the nerves of the paranoid Saints fans amongst their support.

Southampton vs. Arsenal predicted lineups

Southampton's form has fallen apart since the end of February and their run to the FA Cup final quarterfinals covered up cracks in Hasenhuttl's squad that are now being exposed.

There were no fresh injuries picked up in the battering at the hands of Chelsea, but facing another top-four contender it is likely that changes will be made in a bid to stop the rot.

Southampton predicted lineup (4-4-2): Forster (GK) — Walker-Peters, Salisu, Bednarek, Livramento — Diallo, Armstrong, Ward-Prowse, Elyounoussi — Adams, Armstrong

Arsenal struggled against Brighton in their 2-1 loss without Thomas Partey in midfield. It is unlikely the Ghanaian will be back for the trip to Southampton as the thigh injury he suffered at Crystal Palace is still being assessed.

With Kieran Tierney already ruled out for the rest of the season with injury, the defence also looks unbalanced. The idea of playing center mid Granit Xhaka at left back is unlikely to be repeated after an unconvincing go there against Brighton.

Arsenal predicted lineup (4-3-3): Ramsdale (GK) — Cedric, White, Gabriel, Tavares — Lokonga, Xhaka, Odegaard — Saka, Lacazette, Martinelli

Southampton vs. Arsenal betting odds

Traditionally, this is a game that usually has plenty of goals with the past nine games at St Mary's having at minimum at least two goals in each clash.

Arsenal had won their previous five away games before their setback to Palace, so they will hope that will be a blip against a Southampton side that has registered only three league clean sheets since November 5.

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, who has proven a key threat on the road with five goals in the past six away league matches, will again be the visitors' leading threat.

The match against Chelsea was only the second time in the past 15 league games that Southampton have failed to score.
