Premier League betting: Red card crackdown provides value, punter gives up potential $90,000 image

An extraordinary Premier League crackdown on player dissent and time wasting is creating value for football punters.

With the red card tally for this Premier League campaign closing in on the tally for the entirety of last season, punters could use this information to exploit markets.

And a Unibet punter has given up a potential $90,000 windfall from a multi-bet by cashing out before the final leg was played.

Premier League red card crackdown

In the 2022-23 Premier League campaign there were 31 red cards for the entire season - in 2023-24 there has already been 29 reds.

Referees in England have been handing out yellow cards more often for dissent and timewasting, which is leading to more red cards - particularly from second yellows.

However the betting markets for red cards in matches have been slow to adjust to the change in officiating, with Unibet having $4.50 or higher odds for a red in the last four matches that have seen a man sent off.

And this has been just across the last two matchdays.

For Arsenal vs. Wolves this weekend, you can get $4.25 for a red card in the match with Unibet.

Punter gives up $90,000 windfall to cash out

An Australian punter has passed up the chance to win  nearly $90,000 with one leg to go in a Twentyfold multi-bet.

Needing only Portuguese champions FC Porto, who are $1.56 currently, to win on the road against Famalicao on Sunday, the punter instead decided to cash out - collecting a neat $6,117.03.

If the punter decided to let it ride and FC Porto won, they would haul in an incredible $89,730.

Would you cash out or let it ride?
