Christian Lealiifano contributed 15 points as Brumbies saw off Cheetahs 20-3 in Canberra on Saturday.

The fly-half opened the scoring in just the third minute at the GIO Stadium when he shrugged off Joe Pietersen's tackle to touch down.

Lealiifano added the conversion and a penalty before the break, while three points from the boot of Pietersen for Cheetahs made the score 13-3 at half-time.

Brumbies made another quick start after the break and Blake Enever barged over for their second try after Cheetahs had held the hosts up at the line.

The result means Brumbies remain top of the Australia conference, while Cheetahs are 12th in the overall standings.

Elsewhere, Chiefs came from behind to defeat the winless Blues 23-16 at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton - their second victory over their New Zealand rivals this season.

The home team led by seven at the break as James Lowe scored the only try of the half in the 18th minute, only for Blues to threaten an upset when they moved 13-10 ahead after the break.

But it proved short-lived, an Aaron Cruden penalty levelled the scores before Michael Leitch broke away to set up Tom Marshall for what proved to be the decisive try for Chiefs.

Cruden and Blues replacement Ihaia West traded kicks in the final stages - ensuring the visitors claimed a losing bonus point.

In the day's late games, Crusaders hammered Sharks 52-10 in another fiery encounter at Kings Park.

Just three weeks after Sharks and Chiefs had shared two yellow cards and a red card at the same venue, the Durban ground was once again the scene of ill-discipline, as referee Stuart Berry issued four cards in the space of five minutes before half-time.

Nepo Laulala saw yellow for Cusaders after a shoulder charge with 37 minutes played before he was followed to the sin-bin by team-mates Kieron Fonotia and then Nemani Nadolo, the latter for kicking the ball away after Berry had awarded a penalty.

The Sharks' numerical advantage was reduced within a minute when Jean Deysel - also dismissed in the reverse fixture last year in Christchurch - was sent off for jumping into a ruck with his knee, as the Crusaders headed in at the break 28-3 in front.

Tries from Andy Ellis, Israel Dagg, Fonotia and Ryan Crotty had the New Zealanders firmly in control - all converted by Colin Slade - before Slade himself as well as right-wing David Havili, Matt Todd and Tom Taylor all got in on the act to give Crusaders their biggest win in Durban, as well as a bonus point.

Odwa Ndungane was the only man to cross the whitewash for Sharks, who were dealt a further blow when captain Patrick Lambie was forced off injured in the second half.

Things were far tighter at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, where Lions beat Bulls 22-18 thanks to a thrilling finish.

With a minute to go, Lions were trailing 18-15 before Armand Van der Merwe went over, with Elton Jantjies adding the extras as Bulls were forced to settle for losing bonus point.

It looked as though they would come away with much more than that when Jacques-Louis Potgieter's sixth successful penalty moved them back in front with two minutes to play.

The boot of Jantjies, who kicked five penalties, kept Lions in touch throughout, until Van der Merwe's late score brought an end to Bulls' four-match winning run.
