Who is Millie Boyle? Clubs, position, career timeline

Boyle currently plays for the Sydney Roosters as a prop.

Born in Cobargo, New South Wales, she undoubtedly has rugby league running through her blood.

Her father David was a professional footy player for the Canberra Raiders, as was her uncle Jason Croker.

She has links to today's NRL competition too, related to Manly Sea Eagles players Morgan Boyle (brother) and Lachlan Croker (cousin).

Despite these family ties, Boyle initially enjoyed success playing rugby union.

She worked her way up the ranks in high school before being selected to play for the Australian Capital Territory in the National Women's Rugby Championship.

A call-up to the Australia women's national rugby union team followed, where she was the youngest on the team - 19 years old - at the Women's Rugby World Cup in 2017.

After one season with the Queensland Reds Super Rugby team, Boyle made the decision to return to rugby league - the game she first played as a child.

Her cross-code achievements helped her make her NRLW debut in 2019 for the Brisbane Broncos, remaining with the club for three years.

A move to the Newcastle Knights for the 2022 season followed before she announced she was signing with the Roosters for the 2023 campaign.

In her time as an NRLW player, she has won three grand finals whilst also winning the 2022 Dally M Medal alongside Emma Tonegato.

On a representative level, she has made six appearances for the NSW Sky Blues and earned multiple call-ups to the national team, the Jillaroos.

'Allowed to say that game was terrible': Millie Boyle makes NRLW admission

A proactive advocate of the women's game, Boyle spoke candidly in the weeks leading up to the 2023 NRLW season on the status of the league.

She admitted the lack of criticism is hurting the standard of the women's game, with the upcoming campaign set to feature four new teams.

Despite the clear growth of the NRLW competition, there is still a long way to go according to the Roosters star, who admitted the tip-toeing from some fans and experts isn't doing the women any favours.

“That is a pet hate... it’s almost like a stock standard thing that comes out, like ‘How good is it going’ – you’re allowed to say that game was terrible," Boyle told SEN 1170.

"It’s like you’re going to be shot for saying something bad about women’s sport.

"If we want to be taken seriously, we have to take that criticism as well and be accountable for not having the best performances.

"Yes there are reasons – playing Origin after you haven’t played any footy at all, no one is in form – that kind of thing.

"Our first game of Origin, God it was bad – it was actually embarrassing – and then afterwards, they were like, ‘Hey guys, we had 43 per cent more viewers than last year.'

"If this is what people are tuning into for the first time, that’s embarrassing and we are so much better than that as a product."
