South Sydney has confirmed Wayne Bennett will coach the club in 2019, adding an extra year to his original two-season deal for 2020 and 2021.

It comes at the end of an eventful Sunday which saw Bennett sacked as Broncos coach, and Anthony Seibold announced to take over at Red Hill effective immediately, which is also 12 months in advance.

Bennett, remarkably, was sacked via a voicemail message and email from Broncos chief executive Paul White, with the 68-year-old seemingly unwilling to answer his calls.

Speaking in a statement on South Sydney's website, Bennett said it was a weight off his shoulders to have his future settled.

"I'm really pleased it's all resolved and that I can join this great club with a free mind, knowing I did the right thing by the fans, staff and players," Bennett said.

"I'm really looking forward to being at South Sydney and working with the players, staff, board and all of the members.

"It's a wonderful club, South Sydney, and I feel privileged to have the chance to coach this team."

South Sydney's General Manager of Football Shane Richardson says Bennett is prepared for the move.

"Wayne is ready to go for 2019 and we're ready for him to start his tenure with us," Richardson said.

"Everyone is really excited about the season ahead and we're sure it will be a great year for our members and supporters."

Richardson also wished Seibold well at the Broncos.

"We thank Anthony for his efforts over the past two years and we wish him, his wife Hollie and his three daughters Isabella, Ava and Sienna the best for the future," he added.
